Shumbera, Adolph J.

A. Shumbera Funeral Services Held April 16

Adolph J. Shumbera, 83, of Weimar died April 13 at Parkview Manor. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 16 at Weimar United Church of Christ with Rev. Jerry Carpenter and Father John Peters officiating.

Interment followed in the Masonic Cemetery in Weimar.

Mr. Shumbera was born on Nov. 8, 1921 in Weimar to Adolf Shumbera and Lillie (Krejci) Shumbera.

He attended Country School eighth grade and several vocational schools.

He lived in this area for 79 years. He also lived in Wyoming from 1942-1946.

Adolph served in the Air Service Group, Branch 375. . He also received the Theater Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon, and One Service Stripe.

He was also involved in many organizations, Weimar UCC Church, SPJST, Herman Sons, and American Legion No. 259.

On Mr. Shumbera’s past time he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, hunting, fishing, playing dominoes, and working with his farm equipment.

Adolph worked for 35 years at Colorado County Precinct 2 as a skilled mechanic, heavy machine operator, and rancher.

He is survived by his wife Rosie Shumbera; two daughters, Doris and husband Donald Hoeinghaus of Weimar, Maxine and husband Paul Billeck of Weimar; son Melvin Shumbera and wife Jane of Cypress.

He is also survived by one sister, Vera Hilscher of Weimar, and two sisters-in-law, Norma Shumbera and Evelyn Shumbera both of Weimar, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Emil and Charlie; brother-in-law, Winfred Hilscher all of Weimar.

Pallbearers were all his grandchildren, Donnie Hoeinghaus, Dustin Hoeinghaus, Eric Billeck, Kevin Shumbera, Deke Kittrell, and Allen Konvicka.

Ad. Shumbera Funeral Held Here July 12

Funeral services for Adolf Shumbera Sr. 83, of RI 1, Weimar, were held Tuesday, July 12, from Hubbard Funeral Chapel, with burial in Masonic Cemetery.

Rev. D. L. R. McDougle officiated.

Mr. Shumbera died at 8:30 a.m. on July. 11 in Citizen s Memorial Hospital, Victoria. He had been in failing health for a year and hospitalized for ten days.

Born at Ammannsville on Aug. 25,1893, he was a son of Anton and Anna (Tomis) Shumbera. He married Lillie Krejci here on Nov. 22, 1920. He was a member of Weimar United Church of Christ and the SPJST.

His wife survives, along with three sons. Adolph. Emit and Charlie, all of Weimar; one daughter. Mrs. Winfred (Vera) Hilscher of Weimar; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Emerich (Ludmila ) Hanus of Skidmore, Mrs. Joe (Mary) Barta of Weimar.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Frank (Frances) Hudec, and seven brothers. Leopold and Adolph as small children and John, Emil, Frank, Julius and August.

Pallbearers were Larry Shumbera, Melvin Shumbera, Allan Shumbera, grandsons. and Donald Hoeinghaus, Paul Billeck and George Krejci.

MRS. ANNIE SHUMBERA DEAD

Mrs. Annie Shumbera, aged 80 years in July, died Tuesday night at the home of her son-in-law, Mr. Frank Hudec, in the Wildwood community, following a stroke of paralysis nearly a year ago. She leaves a family of nine children. The funeral will take place Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock, from the residence of Mr. Hudec, with interment in the Weimar Masonic Cemetery.

Death and Funeral of Mrs. Annie Shumbera

Mrs. Annie Shumbera, wife of the late Anton Shumbera, died Wednesday, March 29, at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hudec, in the Wildwood community. She had enjoyed remarkably good health all her life until about a year ago, at which time she suffered a paralytic stroke, from which she only partly recovered.

Mrs. Annie Shumbera, a daughter of John and Marie Tumis, was born in ?tatimove, Czecho-Slovakia, July 23, 1853, and was 79 years, 8 months and 6 days old at time of death. In the year 1872 she was married to Mr. Anton Shumbera. They came to America Oct. 31, 1881, first settling in the Bluff community, in Fayette county; later moved to Ammannsville, and then to Live Oak Colorado county. To this union were born eleven children—eight sons and three daughters. Two sons died while the couple lived in Europe. Nine children are, still living, all of who are grown and married.

She was buried in the Weimar Masonic Cemetery Thursday afternoon at ? o’clock by the side of her late husband who preceded her in death some thirteen years ago, in the presence of a large crowd of relatives and sympathizing friends. Rev. Vilt of Needville officiated in a touching burial service.

She leaves to mourn her death nine children, as follows:  Mrs. Frances Hudec, Mrs. Marie Barta, Messrs. John, Emil, Frank, August and Adolf Shumbera of Weimar, Mrs. Ludmilla Hanus and Mr. Julius Shumbera of Skidmore, ?? grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Pall bearers were Messrs. Frank Janecka, V. Kusey, B. Pokorny, Rudolf Mozisek, Ignac Trefny and Frank Krejci.

Throughout her life Mrs. Shumbera ever proved herself to be a devoted wife and mother, a true friend and the best of neighbors. She was devoted to her family, raising a large family of splendid sons and daughters who are to a credit to her and who stand deservedly high in the communities in which they reside. She was always glad to assist her neighbors and friends in every any possible, and in this way endeared herself to all with whom she came in contact. She will indeed be greatly missed by family and friends wherever she was known.

Annie Shumbera Funeral Services Held July 26

Annie Hanzelka Shumbera, 89, of Weimar died July 23 at Parkview Manor Nursing Home due to an extended illness.

Funeral services were held July 26 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Judith Sellers officiating. Burial followed at Masonic Cemetery.

Mrs. Shumbera was born Feb. 19, 1909 to Joseph and Emily Kudulka Hanzelka in Weimar. She attended Svetlo School.

She married Emil H. Shumbera on Nov. 10, 1930 in Weimar. She was a homemaker on the family farm. She lived in this area her entire life.

Survivors include: a son, Clarence J. Shumbera, of Wharton; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Shumbera was preceded in death by: her husband; a daughter; EvelynBartosh; and a brother, John Hanzelka.

Pallbearers were: John Shumbera, Curtis Boecker, James McClanahan, Paul Bartosh, Stuart Babik and Mark Shumbera.

Shumbera, Anton

Mr. Anton Shumbera Dead

Mr. Anton Shumbera, an aged and prominent farmer of this section, died Monday night of Bright’s disease, after a long illness and the remains were committed to mother earth in the Masonic Cemetery west of town Tuesday afternoon at 4 o’clock, a large circle of mourning relatives and friends following the remains to their last resting place. Mr. Shumbera had lived in this section for many years, and was well and favorably known to all. He was highly regarded by all who knew him, and his death is sincerely deplored. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the bereaved family.

We are sorry to report the death of Mr. Anton Shumbera, which occurred at the family home here on Monday, Dec. 20, after a several days’ illness. The funeral took place the following day at the Masonic Cemetery under the auspices of the following lodges, of which he was a member: S.P.J.S.T., C.S.P.S., and the Hermann Soehne. Mr. Shumbera was an old-time settler of this community. He was born in Czecho-Slovakia in 1848, and came to this country about 1881 an settled near Ammannsville, then moved to this section, where he lived up to the time of his death. He was a good citizen, and liked by all. He leaves a widow and the following children: John and Emil of Bois d’ Arc, Julius of Skidmore, Frank, August and Adolf of this place, Mrs. Hanush [sic] of Skidmore, Mrs. Hudec of Wildwood, and Mrs. Joe Barta of this place. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family.

Funeral for Aug. Shumbera Here Monday

Funeral services for August Shumbera, 76, lifelong resident of the Weimar area, were held Monday afternoon, April 26, at Hubbard Funeral Home, with interment in Masonic Cemetery. Rev. Albert Hubertus officiated.

Mr. Shumbera died Saturday, April 24, in the Veterans Administration Hospital at Houston, where he had been a patient two weeks. He had been ill about six weeks.

Born Nov. 27, 1888, at Ammannsville, he was a son of Anton and Annie Tumis Shumbera. He married Miss Vlasta Kroboth here on Nov. 10, 1920, and they settled on a farm near Weimar where they have lived since.

Mr. Shumbera was a member of the SPJST Lodge and the American Legion. He was in the Army in World War I, serving in France, and members of the local Legion post acted as pallbearers for his funeral. They were Adolf Shumbera Jr., Willie Hudec, Jerry Hudec, Harry Knebel Jr., Rudy Jasek and Edwin Barta.

Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Vlasta Shumbera; one son, Capt. August L. Shumbera, stationed in Omaha, Nebraska; three daughters, Mrs. Leroy (Vlasta) Polk of Weimar, Mrs. J. C. (Alice) Fairchild of Buna and Mrs. Linton (Lillian) Lee of Houston; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Adolf Shumbera Sr. of Weimar and Frank Shumbera of Austin; and two sisters, Mrs. Ludmilla Hanus of Skidmore and Mrs. Joe (Mary) Barta of Weimar. A daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Edith) Janacek, died two years ago. Three brothers, one a twin, and a sister also preceded him in death.

C. L. Shumbera Funeral Held Here Dec. 5

Funeral services for Charlie Lee Shumbera, 55, of Rt. 1, Weimar, were held Wednesday, Dec. 5, from Hubbard Funeral Chapel, with burial in Masonic Cemetery. Rev. Norman (Skip) Sirnic officiated.

Shumbera, a U.S. Army veteran died at 5:55 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, in Citizens Hospital, Victoria, of heart failure.

A lifelong resident of the Weimar area, he was an employee of International Muffler Co. in Schulenburg.

Born Jan. 24, 1935, at Weimar, he was a son of Adolf and Lillie (Krejci) Shumbera. He married Norma Lee Hairell at Hallettsville on Nov. 22, 1969. His Army service was with the 504th Infantry in Germany in 1957-58.

Surviving are his wife, Norma L. Shumbera of Weimar; two brothers, Adolph J. Shumbera and Emil G. Shumbera, a sister, Vera Mae Hilscher, all of Rt. 1, Weimar; three nephews and five nieces. His parents preceded him in death.

Pallbearers were Melvin R. Shumbera, Paul H. Billeck, and Alan Shumbera, nephews; and Adolph Hudec, Bennie Kosler, and Allen Hoelscher.

Final Rites for Emil Shumbera, 80, Held Saturday

Funeral services were held at Hubbard Funeral Home Saturday morning, Dec. 26, for Emil Shumbera, 80, who died at 2 a.m. Thursday in Youens Hospital.

Rev. Herbert Zimmerman officiated. Burial was in the Masonic Cemetery.

Mr. Shumbera had been a member of the SPJST Lodge for 61 years.

Mr. Shumbera had fallen Sept. 15, breaking his hip, and had been in Youens Hospital since. He had been recovering well, however, and was to have been released from the hospital in time to enjoy Christmas at home, when he suffered a stroke Wednesday, Dec. 23.

Mr. Shumbera was born Sept. 3, 1884, at Ammannsville, a son of Anton and Annie Tumis Shumbera. In 1907 he moved to Skidmore, where on Oct. 27, 1908, he married Miss Mary Doubrava. They moved to Borden in 1920 and had lived there since. Mrs. Shumbera died only last May.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Paul Binder of Borden; one son, Emil James Shumbera of Houston; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Joe (Mary) Barta of Weimar and Mrs. Ludmilla Hanus of Skidmore; and three brothers, Frank Shumbera of Austin and August and Adolph Shumbera of Weimar.

Pallbearers were Wm. Hudec, Henry Hudec, George Hanus, Adolph Shumbera, Wm. Shumbera, and Rudolph Sumbera.

Emil Shumbera Funeral Held Here Feb. 6

Funeral services for Emil G. Shumbera, 67, of Rt. 1, Weimar, were held Thursday, Feb 6, from Hubbard Funeral Chapel, with Burial in Masonic Cemetery. Rev. “Skip” Sirnic officiated.

Shumbera, a farmer and a lifelong resident of this area, died Feb. 4 at Colorado-Fayette Medical Center, after a lengthy illness.

Born Feb. 29, 1924, in Weimar, he was a son of Adolph Sr. and Lillie (Krejci) Shumbera. He married Evelyn Walchar here on Oct. 24, 1950. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Air Force from 1945 to 1949. He was a past  secretary-treasurer of SPJST Lodge No. 8 and a member of American Legion Lodge McBride Post 143, Schulenburg.

His wife survives, along with two sons, Larry G. Shumbera of Weimar and Alan Shumbera and wife of Schulenburg; three grandchildren; a brother Adolph Shumbera Jr., and a sister, Vera Mae Hilscher, both of Weimar. A brother, Charlie Shumbera, preceded him in death.

Pallbearers were Paul Billeck, Bennie Kosler, David Hayward, Ronnie Hayward, Don Hoeinghaus and Melvin Shumbera.

Emil Shumbera Funeral Held Here March 6

Funeral services for Emil Henry Shumbera 83, of Rt. 1, Weimar, were held Friday, March 6, from Hubbard Funeral Chapel, with burial in Masonic [Odd Fellows] Cemetery. Rev. Paul May officiated.

Shumbera, a farmer and dairyman, died March 3 at 9 a.m. at Colorado-Fayette Medical Center.

Born March 6, 1908, at Ammannsville, he was a son of John and Frances (Macha) Shumbera. He married Annie Hanzelka here on Nov. 10, 1930.

His wife survives, along with a son and daughter-in-law, Clarence and Vicki Shumbera of Wharton; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one brother, William Shumbera of Weimar; and three sisters, Gabriella Shumbera and Mary Shumbera of Weimar and Sister Annunciata of Houston. A daughter, Evelyn Bartosh, and a sister, Annie Kossa, preceded him in death.

Pallbearers were John Shumbera, Mark Shumbera, Paul Bartosh, Scott Lane, Joe Hanzelka, and Curtis Boecker.

Funeral for Mrs. Shumbera, 91, Sept. 25

Funerarl services for Mrs. John (Frances) Shumbera, 91, were held Wednesday morning, Sept. 25, from Hubbard Funeral Chapel and St. Michael’s Catholic Church, with burial in St. Michael’s Cemetery.

Rev. Charles Carolan officiated, along with Rev. Thomas O’Callagahn, Rev. Thomas Collins, and Rv. John Peters.

Mrs. Shumbera died Monday, Sept,. 23, in Youens Memorial Hospital, after a short illness.

A lifelong resident of this area, she was born in the community of Navidad, Fayette County, March 6, 1883, the daughter of Mikulas and Johanna Huvar Macha. She was married to John Shumbera on October 26, 1904.

Mrs. Shumbera was a member of St. Michael’s Church, Christian Mothers Society and the Legion of Mary.

She is survived by two sons, Emil H. and Wm. E. Shumbera, both of Weimar; three daughters, Miss Mary Shumbera and Miss Gabriella Shumbera of Weimar and Sister M. Annunciata, IWBS, of Victoria; seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Shumbera was preceded in death by her husband in 1951, one daughter, Mrs. John (Annie) Kossa, in 1973, and one granddaughter.

Pallbearers were grandsons David Shumbera, Dr. Clarence Shumbera, Joseph Flaherty, Edwin Bartosh, Michael Sharp, and Paul Bartosh.

Frank Shumbera, 79, WW I Vet, Buried Friday

Funeral services were held here Friday for Frank Shumbera, 79, who died Wednesday, Feb 16, in an Austin hospital where he had been a patient for several years.

Rev. John Bily officiated in services at Hubbard Funeral Home and St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Burial was in St. Michael’s Cemetery.

Mr. Shumbera, a World War I army veteran, was born Sept. 16, 1896, at Ammannsville, a son of Anton and Anna Tumis Shumbera. He married Miss Julia Michalcik on May 16, 1922, and they settled on a farm near Weimar, where they lived until he became ill.

Mrs. Shumbera survives, along with one brothers, Adolf Shumbera Sr. of Weimar; two sisters, Mrs. Ludmilla Hanus of Skidmore and Mrs. Joe (Mary) Barta of Weimar. Four brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Pallbearers were nephews Charlie Hanus, John E. Kossa, Henry Hudec, Jerry Hudec, Paul Binder and Leroy Polk.

Shumbera Services Held Aug. 2

Gabriella Shumbera, 84, of Weimar, died July 31 at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Victoria.

She was born on Dec. 15, 1911 to John and Frances (Macha) Shumbera in Fayette County.

She attended Weimar High School and Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos, where she received a bachelor of science degree.

She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the St. Ann’s Society.

She lived here most of her life as a teacher. She taught at Bois D’Arc School, Rock Island, Beeville ISD, and at St. Michael Catholic School here in Weimar.

Funeral services were held Aug. 2 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Weimar and burial services were held at the St. Michael Church Cemetery, with Father  Bily and Reverend John Peters officiating.

She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

She is survived by a brother, William E. Shumbera of Weimar, and two sisters, Mary Shumbera of Weimar, and Sister Annunciata Shumbera of Victoria.

Pallbearers were David Shumbera, Mark Shumbera, Dr. Clarence Shumbera, Scott Lane, Michael Sharp, and Thomas E. Flaherty.

Acoyltes were Clayton Janecka and Jack Janecka.

Final Rites for John Shumbera, 70, Held Here Sunday

Funeral services for John Shumbera, 70, were held from Hubbard Funeral Home and St. Michael’s Church Sunday morning, Msgr. F. Drozd officiating. Interment was in St. Michael’s Cemetery.

A resident of this area most of his life, Mr. Shumbera died at his home early Friday morning after a lingering illness that had confined him to bed for a number of years.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Emil H. and William E. of Weimar; four daughters, Mrs. John E. (Annie) Kosea of Needville; Miss Shumbera of Weimar; Miss Gabriella Shumbera of Beeville, and Sister Annuciata, TWBS, Nazareth Convent, Victoria; five grandchildren; four brothers and three sisters.

Pallbearers at the funeral were Jim Hluchanek, Paul Binder, Raymond Janacek, Leroy Polk, Adolph Shumbera and Willie Hudec.

Funeral for Mrs. Shumbera Here April 10

Funeral services for Mrs. Ludmilla (Lillie) Shumbera, 84, of Rt. 1, Weimar were held Thursday, April 10, from Weimar United Church of Christ, with burial in Masonic Cemetery. Rev. Ernest S. Dean officiated.

Mrs. Shumbera died at 6:35 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, in Colonial Nursing Home, Schulenburg, of a massive heart attack. She had been a resident of the home the past four years.

Born Dec. 16, 1901, in Bechlyn, Czechoslovakia, she was a daughter of Joe and Annie (Cerny) Krejci. Her family came to America when she was nine years old. She was married to Adolf Shumbera Sr. on Nov. 22, 1920, in the Content community south of Weimar. She was a member of Weimar United Church of Christ and SPJST.

Mrs. Shumbera’s husband died in 1977. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Adolph and Rosie Shumbera, Emil and Evelyn Shumbera, and Charlie and Norma Shumbera, and one daughter and son-in-law, Vera and Winfred Hilscher, all of Weimar; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Millie Krizak of Baytown and Libby Rosenbaum of Weimar; and a sister-in-law, Celie Krejci of Rosenberg. In addition to her husband, two brothers, Charlie and Emil Krejci, preceded her in death.

Pallbearers were Larry Shumbera, Melvin Shumbera and Alan Shumbera, grandsons; and Donald Hoeinghaus, Paul Billeck and Emil Krejci Jr.

Mary Shumbera Funeral Services Held July 24

Mary Shumbera, 93, died Tuesday, July 22 at Methodist Hospital in Houston.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, July 24 at St. Michael Catholic Church with Father John C. Bily officiating.

Interment followed at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery.

Lectors for the Mass were Nancy Shumbera and Matthew Lane.

Gifts of bread and wine were presented by Dorothy Flaherty, Karen Shumbera and Jamie Shumbera.

Pallbearers were David Shumbera, Mark Shumbera, Dr. Clarence Shumbera, Scott Lane, Adolph Shumbera and Thomas Flaherty.

Mary Shumbera was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

Miss Shumbera was born in Colorado County on Nov. 2, 1909 to John and Frances Macha Shumbera.

She is survived by one sister, Sister Annunciata of Victoria; and one sister-in-law, Dorothy Shumbera of Weimar.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Emil H. Shumbera and wife Annie and William Shumbera; two sisters, Annie and husband John Kossa, and Gabriella Shumbera.

Shumbera, Mary (Doubrava)

Final Rites For Mrs. Shumbera, 75, Held May 9

Funeral services for Mrs. Emil Shumbera, 75, were held Satuday afternoon, May 9, at Hubbard Funeral Home, wtih interment in the Masonic[Odd Fellows] Cemtery.

Rev. H. Zimmerman, pastor of Faith Lutheran Church, officiated.

Mrs. Shumbera died at 7 p.m. May 7 in Youens Hospital. She had been ill about five years.

The former Mary Doubrava, she was born Nov. 20, 1888, near what is now Yoakum. She was a daughter of James and Agnes Doubrava. The family moved to Bee County in 1891 and she was married there to Mr. Shumbera on Oct. 27, 1908, They continued to live in Bee County until 1928, when they moved to the Weimar area.

Mr. Shumbera survives, along with one son, Emil, of Houston, one daughter, Mrs. Fred (Annie) Binder of Weimar; three grandchildren and on great-grandchild; three sisters, Mrs. Julia Wallek of Skidmore, Mrs. Sam (Agnes) Jackson of San Antonio and Mrs. W. N. Shumbera Services Held On March 2

Norma Lee Shumbera, 72, of Weimar passed away on February 27.

Norma was born on September 30, 1940, in Koreth to Elmer Jack and Agnes Frances Hairell.

She graduated from Yoakum High School. Norma married Charlie Shumbera on November 22, 1969 in Sweet Home.

She retired from Utex Industries. Norma was a long time resident of this area.

She is survived by brother, Glenn Hairell and wife Mary and sister, Rose Hairell all of Weimar.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brothers, Leroy Hairell, Elmer Lee Hairell and William Hairell.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 2 at Hubbard Funeral Home with Msgr. John Peters officiating. Interment followed at the Masonic Cemetery.

Pallbearers included nephews, Melvin Shumbera, Kevin Shumbera, Wesley Hairell, Matthew Hairell, Eric Billeck and friends, Jeff Barrera and Tyler Evanicky.

Honorary Pallbearers were nephews, Paul Billeck, Bryan Hairell, Ashton Hairell, Allen Konvicka, Tanner Konvicka, Trey Billeck, Don Hoeinghaus, Donnie Hoeinghaus, Dustin Hoeinghaus, Colton Kittrell, Cade Kittrell, Larry Shumbera and Alan Shumbera.

Funeral for Mrs. Shumbera Held Nov. 16

Funeral services for Mrs. Vlasta Shumbera, 91, a resident of Parkview Manor, were held Friday, Nov. 16, from Hubbard Funeral Chapel, with burial in Masonic Cemetery. Father John Bily officiated.

Mrs. Shumbera, a lifelong resident of this area, died Nov. 14 at midnight at Colorado-Fayette Medical Center.

Born Nov. 20, 1898, in the St. John community of Fayette County, she was a daughter of Frank Sr. and Mary (Binder) Kroboth. She was married to August Shumbera on Nov. 10, 1920, in Colorado County. He died April 24, 1965.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Leroy (Vlasta) Polk of Weimar, Mrs. J. C. (Alice) Fairchild of Ace, and Mrs. Lillian Lee of Houston; one son, August L. Shumbera of Black Mountain, N. C.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Olga Powell of San Antonio; and one brother, Florian Kroboth of Auburn, Calif.

Preceding her in death in addition to her husband were eight sisters (two in infancy), four brothers, and one daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Edith) Janacek.

Serving as pallbearers were Leroy James Polk, Henry Thomas Polk, Darrell Ray Janacek, and C. J. Fairchild, grandsons; Michael James Polk, great-grandson; and Charlie Kroboth, nephew.

Shumbera, William E.

Wm. Shumbera Services Held On Sept. 23

William E. Shumbera, 81, Weimar, died on September 21 from cancer while at the Colorado-Fayette Medical Center.

Services were held Monday, September 23 at 10 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, with Father John Bily officiating. Burial was in the St. Michael’s Cemetery.

Mr. Shumbera was born May 13, 1915, in Colorado County, to John and Frances (Macha) Shumbera.

He attended school in Weimar, and married Dorothy Malek on May 3, 1954, in St. Andrews, Hillje, Texas. He was employed as a Southern Pacific Railroad Clerk and was a lifelong resident of this area.

Mr. Shumbera served in the 926 Signal Battalion from April 15, 1942 to October 12, 1945; was overseas for two and a half years during World War II, and was the recipient of five Battle Stars. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the VFW.

Mr. Shumbera is survived by his wife, Dorothy Shumbera; sons, David Shumbera and wife Nancy of Houston; and Mark Shumbera of Houston; a daughter, Karen Lane and husband Scott of Plano; two sisters, Mary Shumbera of Weimar; and Sister Annunciata Shumbera of Victoria; and one grandson, Matthew Lane.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Annie Kossa and Gabriella Shumbera, and one brother, Emil Shumbera.

Pallbearers were Clarence Shumbera, Ernest Opella, Mike Sharp, Ike Ermis, Joe Flaherty, and Daniel Ulricht. Acolytes were Clayton Janecka and Jack Janecka.
