The following is an article which appeared in the Colorado Citizen on Thursday, June 22, 1876:

I have for sometime been trying to get a list of the eldest white males living in this county, but not having time to finish, I concluded to let you have it as it is. When I commenced this, several persons from different parts of the county promised to send me lists, but I have failed to get a list from any of them. I know of several of our oldest men in the county but have not been able to find out their exact ages and the time they came to the State. I have failed to get lists from Eagle Lake, Weimar, Content and Oakland, where I know some of our oldest citizens live. I have also taken a few of our oldest ladies in the county and I will give you the number and average age and the average years they have been in the State, but will not give you their names, as some of them may want to marry again and I would not want their ages exposed. I have only taken the ages of 31 , whose ages aveage 68 years, and in Texas average 31 years, 4 months and 6 days. I know of several other very old ladies who are heathy and active. I have not taken any ladies' names or ages who did not reach over 59 years, several reach over 80 years. The names of the list of white males are from 50 years up, and their ages average 60 years, 11 4-10 days, (sic) and in Texas average 26 years, 3 months and 7 1/2 days. I have been some months in getting up this list, and in consequence two of the names appearing on my list who have died, but as you have already published one of their names in publishing the town list, I have concluded not to take their names off as I had their ages averaged among the rest. I intend to hand this to the county Clerk and let him examine it and get his certificate to it. I want you to publish the list as several of my friends have requested me to give them lists of the old men in the County:
